6. aged 54 yeeres or thereabouts sworne XXX
7. before the said Commissioners, saith and
8. deposeth as followeth videlicet.

10. To the first Interrogatorie hee saith and deposeth that hee well
11. knew the shipp or Carvell called our Lady of Nazareth arlate whereof
12. Richard Chappell (this deponents same) was commander; and saith
13. that shee belonged in proprietie to Thomas Collins, henry Bouford
14. and company English merchants, who were ˹alsoe˺ commonly accompted nad
15. reputed the true and lawfull owners and proprietors of her and of
16. her tackle and furniture, and this deponent heard Ambrose Chappell
17. (commander of the John and Mary un unto which the said Carvall
18. belonged and was alsoe a part of her) say that shee belonged
19. unto them.
20. To the second hee saith that in the yeere 1650 the said Carvall
21. being out ward bound on a voyage from Lisbone for the Brazeele
22. was by the command of Generall Blake (who then lay with
23. the Parliaments fleete before the barr of Lisbone) ordered to attend
24. the said fleete, and further that in or about the beginning of June
25. 1650 old stile the said Carvell was by Generall Blake sent into
26. Lisbone with a message message from him, and on the day of her
27. said going in on the said message being in or neere the about the second
28. day of June 1650, shee was seized at Lisbone with all
29. that belonged unto her by the kinge of Portugalls officers, and her
30. master and all her English mariners turned out of her and imprisoned
31. by the said kings order, and kept some five monethes, some foure
32. and some a lesse time in the said imprisonment, and the said
33. owners were and are deprived of the said Carvell by the said
34. seizure made as aforesaid by the order of the king of Portugall,
35. from whom Prince Rupert had her, all which hee knoweth to
36. be true being present at Lisbone and seeing and observing the
37. premisses to be soe donne, and being imprisoned with the said
38. master and company.
39. To the third hee saith the said Carvell was of the burthen of
40. betwixt 25 and 30 tuns or thereabouts, And (as this deponent
41. heard the said Ambrose Chappell who bought her and others
42. diverse times say) shee cost and stood the owners in XX 600 mill
43. Reis or thereabouts, And otherwise hee cannot depose.
44. To the fourth árticle hee saith and deposeth that there were pilchard
45. and other goods aboard the said shipp or Carvell the lady of Nazareth
46. at the time of her said seizure for the accompt of the master and other
47. English, and otherwise hee cannot depose.
48. To the 5th hee saith hee estimateth the said owners to be
49. damnified by the said seizure and their deprivation of the said
50. vessell thereby in the said summe of six hundre mill Ris; and
51. hee estimateth the losse of the said Richard Chappell her master
52. in losse of his time, goods, clothes, bookes Instruments and
53. XXXXXXX to be damnified by the said seizure and imprisonment
54. to be damn ˹the summe of one˺ hundred pounds sterling at the least, and otherwise hee
55. cannot depose
