Resident in 1656 in the parish of Saint Mary Matsellon alias Whitechappel.

==Evidence from High Court of Admiralty==
Forty-two year old John Hawker deposed on January 22nd 1656 in the High Court of Admiralty.<ref>[[HCA 13/71 f.498v Annotate|HCA 13/71 f.498v]]</ref> He was examined on an allegation in the cause of "Lane Cooper and Company Owners of the ''Providence'' of Boston of which William Otter was master against the ''Samuell'' of London and against Lee the master of her".<ref>[[HCA 13/71 f.497v Annotate|HCA 13/71 f.497v]]</ref>

The case concerned the ships the ''Samuell'' (Master: William Lee) and the ''Providence'' (Master: William Otter). The two ships came from Newcastle on September 30th 1655 towards London. Off of Scarboorugh the two ships were in a collision together".
