Fifty-nine year old Thomas Miller deposed on August 9th 1654 in teh High Court of Admiralty, He was examined "On the behalfe of Captaine John Lynes late commander of the shipp the ''Sampson'' of London".<ref>[[HCA 13/71 f.660r Annotate|HCA 13/71 f.660r]]</ref>

In May 1649 Thomas Miller was master of the ''Sampson'' of London, reporting to Captaine John Lynes, the commander of the same ship. The ship was at Bahia in Brazil, where on May 9th 1649 the ship was seized , together with her lading of sugars, on the authority of the King of Portugal.<ref>[[HCA 13/71 f.660r Annotate|HCA 13/71 f.660r]]</ref>
