Twenty-eight year old William Stephens deposed on February 11th 1659 in the High Court of Admiralty.<ref>[[HCA 13/73 f.70r Annotate|HCA 13/73 f.70r]]</ref> He was examined on an allegation given in by Maurice Thompson and others in "A business of examining of witnesses on the behalfe of Maurice Thompson, Thomas [?Canham] Christofer Willoughby John Page and others, merchants of London, freighters of the shipp the ''Jonathan'', against the Dutch East India Company in particular and all others in general".
