  • Insert immediately after the sentence or phrase you wish to annotate the following macro:<ref>This is the footnote text</ref>
  • Replace 'This is the footnote text' with the footnote you wish to add, using the format: first name, surname, title, (place of publication, date of publication), page or folio number
  • Save the page

Transcription

Barodericke Hatton and Maples were hired for
the monethly wages in the libell given on their behalfe
alleadged by the said Maples to goe from this
Port of London to the Newfound Land
and from thence to Naples, and thence
to Lepora in the Straights, and from
thence to returne directlye to this
port of London, and to end their
voyage, And otherwise they doe
not beleeve the said article to be
true in any part thereof./

2 To the second pretensed position they
answere and beleeve, and either of
them answereth and beleeveth That
in the said shippes course from
Newfoundland towards the straights
shee mett with great stormes, and
that after the stormes were over the
said shipp was in a Condition to
presente and to proceede on her
voyage towards Naples and Lepora
and that the said shipp was then as
neere unto the Straights and to
Portugall as se was unto England
and that as the winde and weather then
was she might as easilye have gone
for the Straights, Spaine or
Portugall as have come for England
And they doe beleeve that divers of
the said shipps Company did with
an unanimous consent of the rest
then propose unto the said Maples
to proceed with the said shippe on
her voyage towards the Straights
