and hee had and received goods from thence , and saith that all the said shipps
goods, saving the tobaccoes aforesaid belonging to this deponent, and a quantitie
belonging to others of the shipps company and about elaven hogsheads belonging
to a younge man dwelling in T[?orrieXe] were and are belonging to the said
Bassili[?era] and company and not to any Inhabitant of Virginia or other
person, which hee knoweth being merchant as aforesaid of the said shipp
and knowing that the same were bought with their effects, and otherwise
hee answereth negatively.

To the fourth hee saith that the said shipp the ffortuna carried in her to
Virginia tenn guns or peeces of ordnance and noe more, and brought the same
and noe more back againe, and left none at Virginia that were
carried out in her.

To the fifth hee saith that neither at the time of the shipps arivall at
Virginia nor at any other time after, did this deponent perceive, or heare
that the Inhabitants there had set up them selves in opposition to or as distinct
from this Commonwealth of England, and saith that there were noe
passengers carried thither in the said shipp ffortuna, and otherwise negatively

To the sixth article hee saith and deposeth that the said shipp the ffortunas
outward lading was not consigned to any in Virginia this deponent going
merchant thereof as aforesaid, and having the disposing thereof in traffique
to and for the accompt of the said producents.

To the last hee saith that there were no papers or writings aboard the said
shipp at the time of her said seizure, save only this deponents booke or
notes of the cargo, which hee beleeveth to be still in the said
shipp, and saith there were noe papers or writings torne, throwne
over board or otherwise concealed or made away.

Examined upon the allegation aforesaid.

Laurence Cornelison of Ter[XX]er in Zealand Mariner aged
24 yeeres or thereabouts sworne and examined.

To the first and second articles of the said allegation hee saith and deposeth that hee
well knoweth the producent John Ba[?ssiliera], and that hee the said Bassiliera
and company were the time arlate owners and lawfull proprietors of the shipp the
ffortuna arlate and of her tackle apparell and furniture and soe commonly
accompted and reputed, And that in or about the moneth of September last
the said Bassiliera and company sent out and imployed the said shipp the
ffortuna from the port of Middleborowe for Virginia on a trading voyage
for their owne use and accompt, and to retourne thence againe for Middleborowe
and further that the said shipp carried a Cargazon of goods from Middleborowe
to be disposed of at Virginia and to bringe the retourne thereof in Tobaccoes
for Middleborow[?a]. All which hee knoweth being the said voyage boatswaine
of the said shipp. And otherwise hee cannot depose.


To the third and fourth articles of the said allegation hee saith and deposeth that
the said shipp the ffortuna outwards bound arived at Virginia the said voyage
on or about the 17th day of November (old stile) 1650 and not before, and
then and there began to dispose of her outwards lading and to gather in
debts which were there before remayning due to the producents for goods
formerly carried thither from Middleborow[?a], and to receive in againe her
homewards lading, And saith further that at and upon the said arivall
there was at Virginia noe newes talke or tidings at all that the Parliament
of England had forbidden or prohibited trade or traffique to or
with the Inhabitants of Virginia whereas if there had bin any such talke or
speech, hee beleeveth hee should have heard or had some intelligence thereof
which hee saith hee did not. And otherwise hee cannot depose.

To the fifth and sixth articles hee saith and deposeth that the said shipp the ffortuna
after her arivall as aforesaid at Virginia fell to taking in and receiving her
tobaccoes and goods for the accompt aforesaid, and that all her tobaccoes and goods
