To the last Inmterrogatorie hee saith that there were three ships in
Company with the Stockholme when she met with the said
Captaine Archers ship. two whereof were dutch and the other a dane
which said dane hee saith came from Saint Ives in company with
him this deponent And further hee cannot depose

Examined upon the Allegation given on the behalfe
of the said Chapman and others.

pXXXX jus.

John [XX]ane of the parishe of Saint Catherine neare the
Tower of London marriner aged 25 yeares or
thereabouts sworne and Examined/

To the first article of the said Allegation hee saith and deposeth that
hee well knewe the ship the Hopewell arlate and the arlate John Wood
Who within and dureing all the time allegate was Master and Commander
and allsoe part owner of the said ship and had and tooke that charge and
Command upon him which hee knoweth to bee true because hee this deponent
was dureing the said tyme one of the Company of and belonging to the
said ship the Hopewell. And further hee cannot depose.

To the second and third articles of the said Allegation hee saith and
deposeth That when the tyme predeposed the parties producent in this
cause (and whose names are mentioned in the schedule annexed) being
by the said Wood hired to serve in the said shippe the Hopewell upon
a voyage from this Port to [XXX] all Ports and Places beyond the Seas
for and after the rate of the respective wages schedulated, They did proceed
upon the said voyage accordingly and ente=re into whole pay at
Gravesend upon or about the beginning of September 1648 arlate at which
tyme the said ship departed thereupon and from thenceforth they the said
Producents did respectively doe and performe theire dutyes a[??ssines] and imployments
abord the said ship very faithfully diligently and carefully All which premisses
hee knoweth to bee true because hee this deponent was dureing all the tyme
predeposed one of the said ships Company together with the said producents and
dureing the same sawe them at Naples receave wages for some tyme according
to the rates schedulated and dureing all the said voyage sawe and tooke especiall
notice of theire behaviour and orderly carriage abord the said ship. And further
hee cannot depose.

To the fowrth article of the said Allegation hee saith and deposeth That
[?albeit] the said shippe the Hopewell was taken and seized by [XXX]
Piratt att Sea in her homewards voyage as is arlate yet hee saith
the said producents nor any of them were guilty thereof nor had
they any hand therein but with the rest of the Company did theire uttmost
endeavors for the preservation thereof which hee knoweth for the reasons by him
predeposed And further hee cannot depose
