Transcription

bundles of corke, three baggs of wooll, 56 peeces of box, and 48 jarrs
of turpentine oile, all which goods for the owners were laden by the
Skipper, and the rest for the master and companie (who are all subiects
of the said States, saving one who is a Norwegian) were by them laden, and
were alsoe to be caried to haver de Grace; and were alsoe received aboard
at Bayon. And otherwise hee cannot depose.

To the 3 hee saith there was rie and some other goods carried in the
said shipp from fflushing to Bayon and were for the said owners accounts
And otherwise hee cannot depose saving as aforesaid.

To the fourth hee cannot depose.

To the 5th hee saith that the said oiles were laden about two monethes
since and severall of the hogsheads conteyning the same are leakie
and the same is soe worsted that it comes abundantly out at the
pump, and the same and the rest of the lading are in a perishing
condition and like to be spoiled with longe lying.

To the 6 negatively.

To the 7 hee saith the master was to receive his freight after 28
gilders and 16 stivers per fatt for each fatt of the said oile, whale bone
and box soe laden by the ffrench, which hee was to receive at
haver de Grace of their marchant to whom the goods were to be
delivered, And otherwise hee cannot depose.

Jacob Cornelison Witte of Schadam in
holland Mariner, master of the said shipp
aged 40 yeares or thereabouts sworne and
examined.


To the first, second, third fourth and fifth Interrogatories hee saith and
deposeth That the said shipp the Phoenix belobgeth to the port of
Schadam in holland and that her owners dwell all there and at
Amsterdam and the hague and were and are all dutch men
and subiects of the States of the United Netherlands, namely Jacob
Johnson ffockendike. myn heer Blijsick, John Williamson de Wise
John Lookevearson and this deponent and others, and that noe ffrenchman
or subiect of the kinge of ffance whatsoever hath any interest therein
And as touching the said shipps lading of salt hee saith the sae
was laden at Brouoye] in ffrance by a ffrenchman, factor for the
ffrench company called the Grand Partie, for whom the said shipp
was freighted, and the same was to be carried and delivered at
haver de Grace for the said accompt of the said companie, and thether
the said shipp was going with the same when shee was met and seized
And saith hee had noe papers aboard but his seabrief, which hee hath in
his custodie, but hee signed a Charterpartie, which was left to be sent
overland to haver de Grace. And saith his said lading of salt consisted at
the time of the seizure of 130 lasts of salt and that hee was to receive
freight for the same 34 gilders per last, which was to be paid at haver
de Grace by him that received it. And otherwise hee cannot depose.
