Transcription

To the fifth hee cannot depose, but referreth himselfe to the
conditions and covenants of masters orders and Charter parties, which
to followe hee holdeth to be prudent.

To the 7th hee saith that it is an usuall thinge for factors (when
they have not goods enough to lade a shipp full for the freighters
accompt,) to permitt other men to loade and make up the rest of the
lading, in case they have not order from their principalls to the
contrary, and hee conceiveth that in case such factors order him
the master is bound to take in such goods of other men aswell
as the freighters, unlesse his Charterpartie bee to the contrary,
And otherwise hee cannot answer saving as aforesaid, saying that
the Charterparties are to be the rules in such cases.

To the 10th hee saith that outwards there is noe rate set by the
Turkey companie for goods by the tonne, but homewards hee
saith their rate is 4 li for a tonne of galls, 6 li sterlinge for
a tonne of Cotton wooll, and 7 li per tonne for fine goods
from Cyprus and Scanderoone, and that Ligorne is within their
privilege, and saith that theise are the ordinary rates of
the Turkey company. And otherwise cannot answer saving
as aforesaid.

To the 18th hee saith that hee conceiveth that the said Alderman
ffrederick, henry Chewne, ffrancis ffowke and Thomas [?Rowse GUTTER]
are all of the Company of Turky merchants, and for such hee
saith they were and are commonly accompted, And otherwise
hee cannot answer saving as aforesaid.

To the 21th hee saith hee referreth himselfe to his foregoing
deposition and cannot otherwise answer.

To the 22th hee saith hee hath bin at Cyprus,
and Scanderoone and that by his order Cottons from Cyprus
and Gawles from Scanderoone have bin laden aboard shipps for
England, and that generally they are in those places taken in
by take, but the master may see them weighed if hee please[?th GUTTER]
for hee is bound by custome to make them good by weight according to the
weight mentioned in the factors bill of lading or Invoice,
And otherwise saving his foregoing deposition and answers hee
cannot answer.

To the 23th hee saith that Cottons (but not Gawles) are
upon their lading in the Straights usually soe steeved and
rammed downe with engines soe hard that it is not
easie to take out the baggs without breaking some of them,
And otherwise hee cannot depose, saving as aforesaid
