Joseph Baddison of Wapping Mariner, aged 30 yeares or
thereabouts sworne before the right Worshipfull. John
Godolphin doctor of lawes one of the Judges of the
High Court of the Admiraltie, and examined
upon certaine Interrogatories ministred on the behalfe of the
said Richard Jennings saith as followeth./

17. To the first and second articles Interrogatories (upon which alone hee is by direction
18. of the producent exámined) hee saith and deposeth that hee well knew
19. the shipp the Recovery interrogated (whereof the interrogate ffrancis hollis
20. was master) at the time of her last voyage outward bound for Newcastle
21. for Coales, and saith that in the said voyage out ward bound shee came
22. into the company of this deponents shipp (the Humphrey of London)
23. and other shipps alsoe bound for Newcastle, off Harwich on the fourteenth
24. of ffebruary last and saile steered along with them, purp they all
25. purposing to saile in company for Newcastle; but soe it pleased
26. God, that the next day about three or foure of the clock in the afternoone
27. shee sprung a ˹greate˺ leake, soe that the water came in a waive, whereupon
28. the said hollis calling out to this deponent, and acquainting him with
29. his conditions and how that his men were readie to quit her by reason
30. of her danger of sincking, this deponent called out to the said hollis
31. his men (who were hoisting out their boate to leave her) to keepe
32. aboard and this deponent would send them help, that soe if it might
33. be the said shipp Recovery might be saved, and áccordingly, this deponents
34. Carpenter and severall of his company went aboard her, and with the
35. Recoveries company laboured and used all diligence for stopping the leak
36. and to save her, but the water increased soe fast XXX in her notwithstanding
37. all their endeavour, that after about an houre that this deponents company
38. had bin aboard her, both they and the said hollis and company of the Recovery
39. were for saftey preservation of their lives constrained to XX abandon her
40. and flie aboard this deponents said shipp (which staid by them) and
41. soe the said shipp Recovery sunck and was utterly lost, and her master
42. and company were arrived in this deponents said shipp at Newcastle.
