What makes a page HARD?
The style of the hand writing is the main problem with hard pages. The letters are poorly formed and run into each other so often it is more important to look at the shape of the word rather than try to work out individual letters. Having transcribed a number of easy pages you should be familar with some of the phrasing used in the HCA documents. This will be invaluable in helping you to get your eye in in decoding these more challenging pages.

To help you master these pages we have included some extracts of familiar phrases

This extract includes the phrase the right worshipful, which is one of the less well used phrases. The long loops on many letters also make reading individual words difficult. The letter S is also particularly tricky the subsequent letters often run together as well so the shape of the
