Transcription said Luke Lucy did then alsoe give directisaid Luke Lucy did then alsoe give direction to his said Correspondent,<br /> to make use of the name of the allate Walter Sopps of hamburgh<br /> a Correspondent of the said Luke Lucy for the better securing of the<br /> said Goods from the dutch or ffrench in case they did renconter them.<br /> hee further saith, That in or about the moneth of June <u>1653.</u> last<br /> past the said hugh Salisbury according to the order and direction of the<br /> said Luke Lucy caused the goods aforesaid to be laden in and aboard the<br /> said ship ''Saint Peter'' (whereof the allate Peter De La Salle was Master) then<br /> lyeing at or neere Portsmouth, to be transported in the same for Saint Sebastians<br /> aforesaid, and there to be delivered to the allate Walter Adams the<br /> factor and Correspondent of the said Luke Lucy, and to be sold and disposed<br /> off there for the proper accompt and upon the sole adventure of the said<br /> Luke Lucy. The premises hee well knoweth, for that hee this deponent<br /> for and during all the time predeposed was and still is Cashier to<br /> and of the said producent, and in that quality by the said producents<br /> order paid for all the said goods and charges incident, the full summe of<br /> 196 ''li'': 10 ''s'': 6 ''d'': sterling besides 32 ''li'': 2 ''s'': which are charged upon the said Mr Lucys accompt<br /> for the dying pressing packing carriage to Portsmouth and other small<br /> Charges about the said goods to all which the transactions of the said producent this deponent<br /> was and is privy, and familiarly acquainted with the same by the<br /> meanes of his [?trXX] and employment aforesaid. And further to<br /> theise articles hee saith hee cannot depose. saving his subsequent depositions. To the 4th and schedule annexed nowe seene and perused by this deponent hee<br /> saith, That about the time of the lading of the goods predeposed in manner<br /> aforesaid, the said producent together with a letter of advise to the said<br /> Salisbury his Correspondent sent three bills of ladeing in the same<br /> filled up with the proper hand writing of Mr Jacob Lucy the producents<br /> brother, one whereof being the schedule annexed was shortly after<br /> returned by the said Salisbury in a letter of advise touching the lading of the<br /> said goods, the same being firmed by the said Peter de La Salle as by the<br /> said bill appeareth, which bill of lading for the reasons predeposed<br /> this deponent is in Conscience convinced to be reasll and true saving that the<br /> said name of Walter Sops is therein as aforesaid Colourably made use<br /> of for the preservation of the said goods in Case of meeting with the<br /> ffrench or dutch as aforesaid. And further cannot depose./ To the 5th hee saith, That hee this deponent was not present when the<br /> said goods in their Course to Saint Sebastians were, as is arlate, forcibly<br /> taken away by the said Captaine Paine in the ''Saint Ives Scout'' arlate,<br /> but after the said ship ''Saint Peter'' was arrived at her said intended Port<br /> of Saint Sebastians, this deponent saw and observed by letters sent thence from the<br /> said Walter Adams, that the said goods in their passage from<br /> Portsmouth to Saint Sebastians as aforesaid had been violently taken<br /> away by an Englishman of war, which the said Master and Companie conceived<br /> to belong to some place in the West of England.
