Abstract & context

Steven Flower wrote to Sir George Oxenden on April 22nd, 1665.

Stephen Flower wrote this letter from Gombroon. Much of his letter concerned local politics and Flower's speculations about developments.

There was considerable competition and friction with the Dutch, and the accompanying package of wine sent by Flower to Oxenden in Surat was been marked by Flower with Armenian characters, in the hope that this would better secure the wine if examined by the Dutch.
