Charles Proby wrote to Sir George Oxenden in a letter dated September 30th, 1665, sent from Fort St. George.

Charles Proby was the son of Peter Proby, a London merchant who was in commercial aprtnership with Sir Richard Ford. Sir Richard Ford and Peter Proby were involved in naval contracts, and had commercial links with Sir William Ryder.
