Notes

(1) Henry Oxinden of Barham makes an interesting comment to his cousin Elizabeth Dallison about the behaviour of sons if they anticiapate that they will receive little or no estate from their parents. In the light of the later behaviour of Henry Oxinden of Barham's son Thomas Oxinden and Elizabeth's own son, Maximilian Dallison, this comment resonates retrospectively with irony.
