The 30th day of August 1651.

ffarington against the shipp the
Arke and against Haward and
Company interressted therein.

Examined upon the Libell and schedule given and exhibited
on the behalfe of the said ffarington.

John Hart of Radriffe in the County of Surrey
Marriner aged 4[?0] yeares or thereabouts
sworne and Examined. deposeth

To the first and second articles of the said Libell hee saith and deposeth
that within the tyme allegate the Arke arlate which was well
knowne unto this deponent being out upon a tradeing voyage
in the parts beyond the Seas and as shee was proceeding from Candy
for Zant was by Casualty forced upon
the Rocks neare the Island of Zant upon which shee lay and
stucke fast for diverse howers space together in great danger to
bee utterly lost and cast away. the arlate William Hayward
and his mate with others of the said ships company being
ymediatly before that tyme deceased. And saith that
such the necessity and danger of the said ship was soe generally
taken Notice of att Zant by her being strucke or sett upon
the said Rocke as that the arlate George ffarington the
producent in this cause being an Englishe Marchant and then in those
parts out of Love to his Countrey and to the Owners of the said ship
(being English men) and to preserve the said ship from the inevitable
ruine (if not prevented) which shee was fallen into hee did procure
severall Masters of ships with Marriners and others with therein
boats and vessells, and other necessaryes and materialls to gett the
said shipp to leave off the said Rocks wereupon shee was soe
fast sett. And saith that the said persons soe imployed with much
hazard and difficulty did sett ffree the said ship and preserved
her from splitting in pe[?e]ces and persishinge as otherwise without doubt
shee had done. All which hee knoweth to bee true because
hee this deponent being then Comander of the ship the
ffreindshippe was with the same att Zante when the said
ship the Arke soe came thither and was there runne upon the
Rocks as aforesaid and then sawe in what danher shee was
and what care cost and paines there was taken and laid out
by the said producent for the preservation thereof by whose meanes
and [?perserverance] only shee was preserved from perishing and
being quite splitt in peaces and lost. And further hee cannot depose.
