ALEXANDER HOSEA CITIZEN and Weaver of London being in perfect memory (blessed bee God therefore) Doe make this my last will and Testament in manner and forme following that is to say ffirst I commend my soule into the hands of my mercifull Creator hopeing for salvation only by the meritts of my Lord and only Saviour Jesus Christ my body I committ to the Dust from whence it came to bee decently buried (by or neare my loving wife in the parish Church of St Laurence Jury London) at the discreton of my Executors hereafter named, they not exceeding four hundred pounds

[And as for those worldly goods it hath pleased God to give mee my Debts and funerall charges being first fully paid I give and bequeath them as followeth that is to say]

ITEM I give grant and bequeath forever unto Christ Church hospital London my funerall expences Debts and legacies being first fully paid That house in Holborne in Middlesex w:th theshops and appurtenances now in the tenure and occupacon of George Spencer his assignee or assignes which said House Shopps and appurces I bought of William ??Imper Esq:r towards the maintenance of the poore Blew Coate Children of the said hospitall Provided alwaies and my expresse will and meaning is that out of the profitts of the said premises from and after the time of my decease my sister in law Mary ?Hollins shall have paid her dureing her life tenne pounds yearly by quarterly payments Provided also and my expresse will and meaning is that out of the profitts of the said premisses from and after my decease there shall bee paid to the lxxx sonne of Thomas Pitt Citizen and Weaver of London dureing his life tenne pounds yearly by quarterly payments

ITEM I give grant and bequeath forever to the Company of Weavers London my debts and legacies being first fully paid towards the releife of the Poore of that Comp:a my other house in Holborn in Middlesex Joyning with the Swan Tavern, part of which I bought of [space] ?Hanson, and the remainder I did build my selfe provided alwayes and my expresse will and meaning is that out of the profitts of the said premisses there by paid to Mrs Newman dureing her naturall life Twenty pounds yearly by quarterly payments from and after my Decease which said summe I contracted to pay her and for which summe shee hath mine and my cousen Joseph Collins his Bond

ITEM I give and bequeath to the Mayor Alderman and Burrough of ?Weekworth in the County of Wilts Six hundred pounds to be laid out and settled as my Executors shall be bee advised by Councell learned in the law for and towards the maintenance of a publick Schoole there, for such children only whose Parent or Parents are Poore, that they may bee tought to writt and read noe Child to bee lesse capable then reading the new Testament or Psalter.

ITEM my will is that the Minister shall not bee chosen Schoolmaster, but alwayes such other person or persons as the Maior Aldermen and Burrough shall choose at furthest within Two years, and my will further is that they shall have power upon any Misedemeanour to turn out any School master and place another in his roome

ITEM I give and bequeath unto the hospitall of Bethlehem London only for and towards the maintenance of the Lunaticks there Two hundred pounds

ITEM I give and bequeath unto S:t Bartholomews hospital London, towards the maintenance of sick lame and wounded persons there, Two hundred pounds.

ITEM I give and bequeath unto my cousin Anne Lazanby Two hundred pounds besides what I owe her

ITEM I alsoe give her the householdgoods in my now dwelling house if I dye before shee marries and I doe forgive her all shee owes mee for dyett in consideracon of the Interest I owe her and upon this condition, that I or my Executors have and receive the profitts and advantage, both principall and interest of my Landy ?Windhams bond

ITEM I give and bequeath unto my couzen William ?Brasfeilds now wife and Children Two hundred pounds

ITEM I give and bequeath to my ?Cousin hxxxx in Jamaica the sonne of my Coen Robert Hosea Carrier deceased Three hundred pounds To his sister Anne ?Berrot ffifty pounds I give to my?cousen Susanna Hosea ffifty pounds and to her sonne Alexander Hosea ffifty pounds

ITEM I give and bequeath unto my couzens Nicholas and Robert Hosea the sonns of the said Robert Hosea to each of them One hundred pounds to Mary and Elizabeth Hosea the Daughters of the said Robert Hosea to each of them One hundred pounds

ITEM I give and bequeath unto my Couzen Thomas Collins of ?maid (?Waid) in the County of Glocester One hundred pounds and to his sonne Thomas Two hundred pounds which said summes of One hundred and Two hundred pounds Thomas Collins the ffather hath already in his hands and is to pay mee interest for it

ITEM I give and bequeath unto my couzen Daniell Collins Three hundred pounds, I doe alsoe give and bequeath unto him that Lease of foure homes in Castle yard formerly M:r Elias ?Lamberts deceased which said Lease I lately bought of the Sheriffs

ITEM I give and bequeath unto Daniell Collins the sonne of the said Daniell Collins One hundred pounds To his daughter Anne ?Cheshere fifty pounds, To his daughter Elizabeth Thirty pounds, and I forgive her what shee oweth mee viz Sixty Five pounds or thereabouts

ITEM I give and bequeath unto my couzen Joseph Collins all my Right title and Interest in those three houses with their appurtenances in Basinghallstreete which I hold by Lease from the Company of Mercers, hee the said Joseph paying or causeing to bee paid To the widdow Gyfford Thirty pounds yearly dureing her life according to a contract made betweene her and mee and also hee the said Joseph paying or causeing to bee paid the ground Rent as it shall grow due Also and I doe further give and bequeath unto the said Joseph Collins all my right title and interest in those foure houses in Mumfords Court in Milkestreete which I hold by Lease from the Company of Mercers

ITEM I give and bequeath unto my Couzen Giles Biddle ffifty pounds To my couzen Daniell Biddle one hundred pounds To his sister Sarah ffifty pounds To his sister Elizabeth ffifty pounds

[ITEM my Will is that after my funerall expenses debts and legacees are all fully paid that the over plus of my estate hereby bequeathed shall bee disposed of according to the discreton of my Executors to such poore Tradesmen and women as they shall thinke fitt noo one to have lesse than five pounds]

ITEM my will is And I doe hereby appoint authorize and fully impower my Executors hereafter named unbequeathed to the use and uses only of this my last will and Testament and to noe other use or uses whatsoever I say to noe other use or uses whosoever to whom I have hereby given any Legacy or Legacies shall not therewith bee content or shall give my Executors trouble by any unnecessarie suite or suites of Law that then such persons or person. shall have noe advantage by any Legacy or legacies hereby intended to bee given them

ITEM my will is that my Executors shall bee allowed all and every summe of money as they shall disburse for executeing and performing this my last will and Testament

ITEM my will is that the bequests hereby made shall only grow due and payable as my Executors have Assetts in their hands and not otherwise

ITEM and Lastly my will is and I doe hereby nominate ordaine constitute and appoint my loveing couzen Joseph Collins and my loveing freinds John Shewell Citizen and Weaver of London and Thomas?Powel of Key Court in the parish of St Mary Aldermary London Master of Arts to bee my Executors And I doe hereby give unto each of them One hundred pounds for their care and paines And I doe desire my loveing freinds William James Citizen and Weaver of London and John Mumford Citizen and Grocer of London to bee the Overseers of this my last will and Testament and I give to each of them Twenty and five pounds Witnes my hand and seale this Nineteenth day of March 1683/4 Memorandum y:t theinterlineings and blottings out were before the sealeing and declareing

MY further will is that this Codicill bee Annexed to my last will and Testament, and I doe hereby make it part of my last Will and

ITEM therefore And whereas I have given to my couzen Joseph Collins severall houses and Tenements as by this my said last Will doth more fully appeare Now my expresse will mind and meaneing is that hee the said Joseph Collins shall not have receive occupie enioy or possesse the said Houses and Tenements or any part or parcell of the said houses and tenements nor receive any profitt or advantage which may arise from them or any part or parcell of them the said houses and tenements untill hee hath paid int o my Executors or Executor the survivor or surviors of them or either of them the ffifteene hundred pounds and odd monies which is due from him upon Bond in December next ensueing, but when and so soone and not before as hee shall fully satisfy the said bond according to the true intent and meaning thereof then the said bequests shall take place and not before Any thing in this my last will andtestament to the contrary notwithstanding

ITEM And whereas I have given by this my last will and testament to Christs Hospitall All my estate right title and interest in that house in Holbourne at the Corner of Grayes Inn lane in which M;r Spencer (the Poulterer) now lives I doe hereby revoke and utterly make void that my bequest, and I doe hereby give grant and expressly will and my mind and meaning is that the said house withall its appurtenances bee given and I doe herby give it and them to the Town and Corporacon of ?’Weekewark towards the maintenance of a Publick School there or to such other use or uses as I shall by my will or otherwise direct
