Transcription

To the 10th Interrogatorie hee saith it is as usuall a thing for shipps
which come home laden into the River of Thames to fasten to other
shipps who ride there by a chayne, as it is for them to lye at
Anchor and moore by them selves except there be
very convenient mooreing for them, And further hee cannot depose/

To the 11th hee saith hee knoweth not the 'Custome in such case
as is Interrogate, nor ever heard such a case decided and therefore
cannot answere to this Interrogatorie./

To the 12th hee answereth negatively./

To the 13th hee saith that the samage predeposed of done to the
quarter of the Exeter Marchant is repayred, and as hee beleeveth
by order of the sayd Woodfin the Master of her, but hee this deponent
sawe not any money paid for the sayd repayres and therefore knoweth not
what the damage amounted unto, And further hee cannot answere/

To the 14th hee saith that since the sayd Exeter Marchants quarter
was soe broken downe as is predeposed, shee hath had other repayres
done to her as graveing and Cawkeing and sayles mended but
what those other repayres amount unto hee knoweth not for that hee
sawe not any money paid for them And further hee cannot answere/

To the 15th hee saith hee hath satisfied the contents of this Interrogatorie
in his foregoeing deposition soe farr as hee can./

Humphrey Lambe of Ratcliff in the parish of Stepney and
County of Middlesex Mariner aged 42 yeares or thereabouts
a witnes sworne and examined saith and deposeth as followeth
videlcet./

To the first article of the sayd allegation hee saith that hee this deponent was
Quarter Master of the arlate shipp the Exeter Merchant in her last voyage
which shee began from this Port of London in the moneth of June 1654 And
saith the arlate Thomas Woodfin went, and was Master and Commander of her the sayd
voyage, and is still reputed soe to bee, and was (as hee beleeveth) made Master
and Commander of her by the Owners thereof, but the particuler names of any
of the Owners hee knoweth not, And saith hee hath knowne the sayd Woodfin
only since about the 8th or 10th of June 1654 and saith hee observed that in the sayd voyage hee
behaved him selfe as anble and experienced seaman in his sayd Office
of master, and for an able and expert seaman the sayd Woodfin is commonly
accompted And further hee cannot depose./
