7. afore said.
8. To the said Interrogatories hee deposeth that hee well knew and was
9. Coxen of the shipp the Roebuck interrogated, (William hargrive master)
10. and servant to the said william hargrave ˹in her last voyage from London to Lisbon˺, and well knew and knoweth
11. George Broughton who was Sopracargo of the said shipp, and this deponent
12. being had power to signe bills of lading for goods received aboard, XXXX
13. in the absense of the master and purser this deponent hath seene him
14. signe many bills of lading, and this deponent being 22 monethes in the said shipp
15. with him and having often seene him write this deponent is very well
16. acquainted with his hand writing, and having nowe seene a bill of
17. lading for two bales of silke dated at London the 7th of ffebruary 1645
18. subscribed Ger; Broughton. hee this deponent well knoweth ˹verily beleeveth˺ the said

30. said shipp the James, aged 31 ˹yeeres˺ or thereabouts sworne
31. before the right worshippfull the Commissioners in the
32. Portugall businesse.
33. Whereas this deponent in a deposition of his made in the Admiraltie Court
34. the 12th of may 1653 touching the said shipp James (Edmund Button
35. commander) and the losses of the owners and marineres therein, XX hath
36. deposed Thomas Jones his losse for goods, clothes and otherwise to be eightie
37. pounds, as in and by the said deposition made on the behalfe of Major SalXXXXX
38. and others is to be sXXXXX, Nowe hee for the further information of the
39. Commissioners touching the particulars of the said losses, saith and deposeth
40. that the said Thomas Jones masters mate and pilot of the said shipp had
41. in her and lost by the seizure at Lisbonn ˹the effects of˺ a parcell of pictures, a parcell
42. of stuffs and stockings, a quantitie of Gummalack, a quantitie of
43. oile, five Rolls of Brazila tobacco, which goods with his clothes, bookes,
44. globes and other necessaries Instruments and necessaries lost by him by
45. the said seizure could not in his estimation be lesse worth ˹than˺ 80li sterling at
