1. To the eighth Interrogatorie hee saith hee beleeveth that the owners GUTTER
2. of the said shipp have by the overthrowe of the said voyage suffered
3. at least 3000li sterlinge losse and dammadge. And otherwise hee cannot
4. depose.

11. John Hayward a witnesse examined
12. upon the fifth Interrogatorie saith and deposeth
13. as followeth.
14. To the fifth Interrogatorie hee saith that after the provisions of the shipp
15. the hopegood (whereof this deponent was master) were spent this
16. deponent and his company were put to the king of Portugalls
17. allowance, who allowed them a teston a day for this deponent the
18. master, and halfe a teston a day for each of his mariners that
19. was and continued in prison for their maintenance, which for this deponent
20. and seaven mariners of the said shipp for 159 dayes (that they had the
21. said allowance) at 450 Res per day comes to 71 mil, 550 Res, and
22. after for this deponent and some more for 126 dayes (over and above
23. the foresaid time) at 500 Rés per day, comes to 37 mil X00 Rés. And
24. saith that during the said sequestration there were moneys expended
25. and paid by the king of Portugalls officers for trimming the said shipp
26. but howe much hee cannot depose. And otherwise hee cannot
27. answer, saving his foregoing deposition and the accompt of
28. particulars by him delivered, whereunto hee referreth himselfe

35. John Hayward examined upon
36. the fifth Interrogatorie saith and
37. deposeth as followeth.
38. To the 5th Interrogatorie hee saith and deposeth that after the provisions
39. of the shipp the Swann were spen spent and imbeazeld by the king
40. of Portgualls officers, Thomas Pitcher her master and company
41. (who were taken out of her and imprisoned) were put to the said
42. kings allowance, who allowed a teston a day to the master and
43. halfe a teston a day for each mariner for their maintenance in their
44. said imprisonment. which hee knoweth for that hee this deponent ˹master of the Hopegood˺
45. and company were alsoe imprisoned with them and had the
46. same allowance. And saith the king of Portugalls officers
47. seized and tooke goods out of the said shipp Swann to a great value GUTTER
48. and that the said shipp was trimmed and XXXX such trimming
49. paid for by the said kings officers. while shee was under the said
50. sequestration. And otherwise hee cannot depose.
