Exámined upon the foresaid allegation in the ácts on the
behalfe of the said Norbrooke.

Robert Knight of the parish of Saint Catherines neere the
Tower of London Mariner aged 25 yeeres or thereabouts
sworne and exámined.
10. To the said allegation hee saith that the designe of the shipp the Sampson
11. the voyage in question was to goe from hense to Guiney, thense to the
12. Barbada's and thense to retourne to this port, and for that voyage this deponent
13. was shipped boatswaine of her here, and hee beleeveth all the rest of the men
14. were shipped for the same voyage. And saith that the said shipp the said
15. voyage being in or about January 1655 in the Roade of Barbada's
16. the allegate Thomas Cox one of her company and evening taking
17. another young man of the shipps company to help to row, tooke the boate
18. from the shipps side and went aboard the Marston Moore frigot then lying
19. in the said Roade (Captaine Mings commander) and sometime that
20. night retourned aboard the Sampson againe, and the next morning
21. hee saith the Lieutenant of the said ˹frigot˺ came aboard the Sampson
22. and demanded him and his clothes, and then the said Cox shewing
23. some unwillingnes to goe with him, the said Lieutenant on the
24. deck in this deponents presense and hearing told him the said Cox
25. saying, you must not thinke to make fooles of us, had you not
26. come aboard us and offered your service, wee should never have
27. looked after you or to that effect, and soe the said Cox went and
28. fetcht his clothes and soe went along with him, and deserted the
29. said shipp Sampson and service, without the ˹liking˺ of the said Norbrooke
30. her master, who was then ashore, and when hee came aboard, expressed
31. much dislike at such the said Coxes going away, and well hee might
32. for the shipp wanted men, and when the said Cox was gonne, the said
33. master hired a man to serve in the said shipp, and otherwise cannot
34. depose, saving the said Cox retourned noe more aboard, to the greate
35. disservice of the said shipp, and saving hee yeeldeth for reason
36. knowledge for that hee was boatswaine of the Sampson, and saw and
