4. Bertrand diX Dibarbore of London Merchant aged nine and
5. twenty yeares or thereabouts sworne before the right Worshippfull Charles
6. George Cock Esquire - one of the Judges of the
7. high Court of the Admiraltie of England, saith and deposeth
8. by vertue of his oath.
9. That whereas on the 28th of March last 1657, hee this deponent upon
10. and according to ádvise by him received from his Correspondents at Paris
11. John James ffXXXX and others ˹did make affidavit in this Court˺ touching the shipp called the ffortune
12. (ffernando Gerardo Love Commander) and her lading bound from
13. Cadiz for in Spaine for Cartagena in the west Indies, (as in and by
14. the said Affidavit or deposition remaining in the Registrie of this Court
15. ˹whereunto hee referreth him selfe˺ more at large is to be seene) Nowe hee further deposeth that hee hath
16. lately received advise from his said correspondents from Paris, that the
17. said shipp the ffortune before her proceeding on the said voyage was cast
18. away in the Bay of Cadiz by stresse of weather and storme, and that
19. the goods that were put aboard her for account of the said ffoXXX and
20. others mentioned in the foresaid deposition were saved out of her, and both
21. they and such other goods as were intended to bee loaded in her for the said voyage
22. were upon her casting away, laded and put aboard a certaine vessell
23. named the Marriage, bound on the same voyage for the same accounts, and
24. that they have alsoe sent him with the said advise a factorie a declaration
25. at her lading in the Spanish tongue, which being translated into English
26. is as followeth, Mr John Pantalin and ffernando
27. Geraldo, who doe goe imbarqued in the good shipp called the
28. Marriage of the burthen of one hundred and thirty tonns
29. or thereabouts at present being and riding at Anchor in the Bay
30. of Cadiz to depart and goe with the first good weather (which God
31. shall send us) to the Port of Cartigena in the Indies. doesay X
32. although I the said John Pantalin doe gow as captaine of the
33. said shipp and that shee was bought in my name, yet I have
34. not any part or share in her for shee XXXXX is and doth belong
35. unto Monsieur Charpentier and Rennault, and John Baptista
36. John James and ffrancis fforna, Inhabitants of the City of
37. Paris, and the said shipp was bought by the said ffrancis
