8. Peter Bartlet of Ratcliff Shippwright aged
9. thirty eight yeares or thereabouts a wittnes sworne
10. and examined saith and deposeth as followeth videlicet./
11. To the first article hee saith that hee this deponent goeing Carpenter
12. of the shipp the Peace arlate the whole voyage in question
13. knoweth that the arlate Thomas Grove during all the moneths amd
14. tyme arlate in the yeares 1657 and 1658 arlate was Master
15. and Commander of the sayd shipp the Peace and had the charge and
16. goverment of her as Master of her during the sayd voyage on which
17. voyage sgee sett sayle from Gravesend the twenty eight day of March
18. 1657 English style and as hee beleeveth went soe Master of her with the consent
19. of the arlate Vincent de la barr and Thomas de La vall, And for Master
20. of her the sayd Voyage the sayd Grove was Commonly reputed And
21. further to this article hee cannot depose/
22. To the second article of the sayd libell hee saith that the sayd
23. Peace was in the Moneth of March 1657 bound from this Port of
24. London to ffrance and thense to Newfound Land and thence to the
25. Barbados and thence back againe to London And saith that the
26. sayd Thomas Grove did in or about the sixteenth day of the moneth
27. of March 1656 lett to freight by Charterparty three eighth parts
28. of the sayd shipp the Peace belonging to the arlate Vincent de la Barr
29. and Thomas de La Vall to the arlate Kuke Wood during the voyage in
30. question for a valuable consideration, as the sayd Luke Wood did
31. affirme to this deponent and others of the sayd shipps Company
32. And further hee cannot depose but for more certaynty therein referreth
33. him selfe to the sayd Charterparty./
34. To the 3 article hee saith that hee well knoweth goeing Carpenter of the
35. sayd shipp that the arlate John Brewer and Edward Crispe were
36. commonly reputed the lawfull Owners and Proprietors of the other
37. five eighth parts of the sayd shipp Peace and her tackel and furniture
38. And knoweth that they did freight and imploy their sayd five eighth
39. parts upon their owne charge and Adventure as Owners and freighters
40. of them And (as the sayd Luke Wood did affirme to this deponent) hee
41. was by the sayd Brewer and Crispe intrusted to goe supracargo upon
42. the sayd shipp and voyage , as well for the mannagement of their sayd
43. five eighth parts as for him selfe and the mannagery of the
44. sayd three eighth parts of the sayd shipp soe lett to him the sayd
45. Wood by the sayd Grove And further to this article hee cannot depose/
46. To the 4th article hee saith that while the sayd shipp laye in the River
47. of Thames takeing in her provisions for the voyage in question this
