Transcription

Ad 2a dirit that in the [forepmienat?] the time the disaster [?]
was [master?] of the ship Mary Rose [?] [?] the lilate John [GUTTER]
charge of her, as master, and for sure hee was Comonly [around?]
A 3.4.5 et 6 dirit that upon or about the 22th day of October
1658 the said ship [wrighed?] to come out of the river of
Newcastle and shee was then coming out in Company of
a great ffleete of ships, most of which were aboard of the
John, shee then having about 14 chaldron of coales, Newcastle
measure onboard her and the wind being to this deponent
remembrance West North West neere that point, the[GUTTER]
Robert Marriot which was [master] of the John caused his
Company [?] of this deponent was one to [?] saile
to prevent the Johne Coming foule of some or one after[GUTTER]
ships of the said ffleete.
and to the and shee should not take away their winde
and saith that im diately after the John weighed [GUTTER]
out of the said River, foresaid ship Mary Rose [?]
weighted, to come out [?], and came in [diatchy?] after [GUTTER?]
a sterne of the John, which all her sailes full and her boat[GUTTER]
ahead towing of her, and came very neere unto they [GUTTER]
which the said , Marriot and Company [proving?] they or most of
them called out to the said Cole and Company and
desired them to [?] their sailes and keep a sterne
telling them that if they did not they would be onboard
John or to that effect which words they heard
and understood and one of them replyed that they [?]
got [rheard?] of her or to that purpose, and the said Marriot
againe called out earn. [Shey?] to the said Cole to the effect [GUTTER]
and hee made answer, that hee would get ahead of
them, meaning ahead of the John, or to that purpose and
owing in the manner aforesaid which all his sailes full and
the boate towing of her, striving to get before, the John
came with her bowe onboard the Johne [larboard?]
five, and tooke away the wind from her, and the Mary
anchor was [foule?] of the Johns [shouds?], and her [?]
under the Johns stay, and for the [?] of the John
his Company were foresaid to cut the [Laniards?] of their
[?shronds] by which meanes the John was put by her [?]
that her Company could not have the Comand of her , and
were forced to let ship their best [?] [auchor?] but [GUTTER]
Roses sailes being still full shee came soe last upon the [GUTTER]
that shee dragged home her [Auchor?] so that it could not [GUTTER]
the John [np?], the promisses hee deposeth deposeth being [?]
witnes there of and onboard the said ship John and one of [GUTTER]
