To the first article of the said allegation hee saith that hee was Purser of the arlate ffrigott
the Royall when she seized and tooke the arlate ship the Godlieve (Michael
Sanser Master. And saith that when the said Master of the Godlieve was first brought
aboard the Royall he swore and passionately declared that if hee had thought
that the said shipp Royall had soe few men and Gunns on board and had bin of soe little strength
hee would bever have yeilded but would have endeavoured to have runn her over
which words or the like in Effect hee spake upon the deck in the presence of this deponent and many more of the Royalls Company And also said that hee was afraid that before hee could procure Claimers his
Shipps lading would bee made prize which words or the like in effect hee spake to this deponent
in Dutch (who well understandung the same) in private Which hee the rather
delcared to this deponent as hee conceiveth for that this deponent knew him about twenty
yeares since to saile in a private man of warr by vertue of a Commission from the late King
of England as hee declared then to this deponent who sailed also in a private man of warr
under [?XXX] with the Dukes of Lorraines Commission. And thereby became well acquainted with him. Et alr nescit salvis subsequen.

at one Mr Garrawayes house in Chichester in this deponents presence as also in the
presence of Arthur Gaveners, the Steward and the Gunner of the Royall and
severall others, And the said Sansier whilst this deponent and his contest Beniamin Bonnet were his keepers would often
say that if hee had a mind to he would leap over board and swim to shore and
make an Escape. Et alr nescit.

Ad 3 nescit deponere.

Ad 4 deponit that after the said shipp Godliffe was brought into Sicklesham Roade about
foure miles from Chichester the Interrate John Rowe one of the searchers
belonging to Sir John Belham Vice Admirall of Sussex had severall conferences with the
Master of the said shipp Godliffe onboard the Royall in private but knoweth not what their
discourse was. Et alr nescit saving the Master of the Royall is an Ostender
and speakes good Dutch.
