John Portman wrote to Sir George Oxenden on March 25th, 1666/67. The letter was sent from London.

In the letter, Portman XXX

John Portman (b. ?, d. 1683) was a London goldsmith. His business was in St. Mary Woolnoth. His eight hearth dwelling was located "Street syde" on Great Lombard street, adjacent to the nine hearth dwelling of the goldsmith Charles Everard. Edward Blackwell, another major goldsmith, was close by, in a larger building with thirteen hearths. Isaac Meynell was also on the streer side, with a dwelling of seven hearths.[1] Two other goldsmiths on the north side of Great Lombard street were Sir Robert Vyner, in a dwelling of eleven hearths, and John Colville, in a dwelling of nine hearths.[2]
