Evidence from High Court of Admiralty
March 1637
Twenty-eight year old Colchester merchant Thomas Reynolds deposed on March 9th 1637 in the High Court of Admiralty. He described the sale by a Calais based merchant, Michael de Haze, of a Dutch bottomed ship of 250 tons burthen, to a Newcastle merchant, a London merchant, and to an English merchant resident at Calais as a factor.
December 1658
Fifty-seven year old Michael de Haze deposed on December 8th 1658 in the High Court of Admiralty. He gave evidence in a case concerning freight rates for salt transported from France to the Spanish Netherlands.[3]
In his deposition de Haze states that he was born at Calais, but had lived for the last thirty years in England, and gave his residence as Dover.[4]
