The case concerned a claim for parcels of oil seized on board the ship the White Angell (Master: John Lewison de Vischer) by English ships in ther service of the Commonwealth. The ship itself and its principal cargo belonged to Jan Bollart, a leading Antwerp merchant. The oils had been put on board the ship at Mallaga by an Antwerp merchant, Andries von Cantlebeck, who was the factor or correspondent of the claimers, the two Antwerp merchants Giles Risheuvel and Melchior Rediquer.[2]
