Evidence from High Court of Admiralty
Thirty-five year old John Kennet deposed on July 5th 1655 in the High Court of Admiralty.[2] He was examined in the case of "John Tayler and Company for a parcell of about 15 Tonns of Currance against Wall, ffowke and others".
Kennet stated that he had been at "the Morea in Turkey" three years ago, and that he had understood it to be the general custom for all English merchants to apply to the English consul before contracting for any goods with the officers of Turkey.[3]
