Biographical synthesis

John Withers (b. ca. 1598; d. ?). Mariner.

Master's mate of the ship the Richard (Master: Henry Sheere ) in October 1655, when she lay at Teneriff in the Canaries.

Resident in 1656 in Deptford in the county of Kent.

Evidence from High Court of Admiralty

Fifty-eight year old John Withers deposed on February 28th 1656 in the High Court of Admiralty.[1] He was examined on an allegation on behalf of Mathew Smith and company in the cause of "Smith and company against Page Ingram Body and Kendal".

The case concerned a dispute at the Canaries.
