Comments

2012-08-10 16:40:47 nbsp Please use this comments box to express your views as to the goals, agenda, etc. of the planned kick off meeeting --Users/ColinGreenstreet

2012-08-11 06:50:41 nbsp Please would all readers of this page record whether they are planning to attend the August 20th kick off meeting. Will they be physically present, or so they plan to dial in or log in from a remote location? Jo Pugh of the National Archives is exploring what dial in or log in options may be available. --Users/ColinGreenstreet

2012-08-11 17:31:54 nbsp I will definitely be able to attend Jill Wilcox --Users/jillwilcox

2012-08-15 18:42:51 nbsp I have added a draft agenda, and start and finish times for the August 20th meeting. Please comment. --Users/ColinGreenstreet

2012-08-16 12:23:42 nbsp I can attend via dial-in. Just let me know the instructions. --Users/charleneeska

2012-08-16 15:20:19 nbsp I would like to try to dial in from Toronto for some portion of the day--perhaps the 11:30-12:30 Project Processes? --Users/margaretschotte

2012-08-16 15:40:01 nbsp Charlene and I have spoken, and she is now planning to dial in for one hour from 10.30-11.30 (05.30-06.30 EST), so that she can briefly present the draft transcriptiona nd editorial policy (which we will circulate in advance of Monday), and then listen to team comments. She will also be available from 15.30 - 16.00 (10.30-11.00 EST) to answer questions and listen to comments after those attending the afternoon palaeography practice session (that's me for certain, I need it) have tried to apply the proposed policies on some concrete examples --Users/ColinGreenstreet

2012-08-16 15:44:34 nbsp Margaret, certainly the project processes and technology discussion from 11.30-12.30 would benefit from your input. There are links between editorial policy and technology which will need to be discussed. For example, the closer to an exact replica of the manuscript and its original markings we go, the greater the potential complexity and resources needed for XML markup. So we need a proper discussion of what different members of the team (including the marine historians, so Margaret and Richard) would like to be able to do with the output of the project. The target outputs could affect whether we wish to capture some fine details or not, and whether we wish to code them up to allow analysis. I am planning to discuss this topic when I meet with Stuart tomorrow (Friday lunchtime, and we dial Giovanni Colavizza into our discussion), but the discussion will need to continue on Monday --Users/ColinGreenstreet
