Abstract & context


Thomas Tomlins' house at St Leonards, Bromley, was rated in the 1666 hearth tax at thirteen hearths. However, the inventory listed many more than thirteen rooms, even after deducting the cellars, the extensive outhouses, and several substantial closets

The main rooms inventoried were:

The gallery chamber
The chamber over the parlour
The chamber over the great parlour
The mens Chamber
The chamber over the wash house
The nursery
The passage room
The chamber over the kitchen
The ?dining room
The upper room over the kitchen
The little parlour
The great parlour
The counting house
The hall
