Mathew Crouar (b. ca. 1630; d. ?). Mariner.
Had been master's mate on the ship the Olive Branche (Master: John Brampton) in 1656 and 1657 on a voyage to Bantam.
Resident in 1658 in Redriff in the county of Surrey.
Evidence from High Court of Admiralty
Twenty-eight year old Mathew Crouar deposed on August 20th 1658 in the High Court of Admiralty. He was examined on an allegation in a case concerning the ship the Olive Branche.[1]
Mathew Crouar stated that "hee well knoweth the arlate ship the Olive Branche having gone masters mate of her the voyage in question" The ship had sailed from London on a voyage to Bantam in the East Indies, intending to transport her lading of pepper from Bantam to Leghorne. She arrived at Bantam on December 23rd 1656, but was prevented from entereing the port by two Dutch vessels.[2]
