Transcription

The 24th of November 1652. [CENTRE HEADING]

The keepers of the Libertie of England}
by authoritie of Parliament against}
the Sampson, Salvador, Peter et cetera and goods therein.}

Rowe dt.

Derrick Hoast of Mortlake in the County of Surrey
aged 64 yeares or thereabouts, examined
upon certaine Interrogatories ministred on the
behalfe of the State saith by vertue of
his oath as followeth.

To the first hee saith that hee hath heard that the shipp interrogated
the Sampson whereof, Otto George is master, the Salvador (Christian
Cloppenburgh master) and the Peter (Daniel Straetman master) have
bin lately seized by the Parliaments fleete, or some of the shipps
thereof. And otherwise answereth not.

To the second hee saith hee hath seene the said Otto George and
Christian Cloppenburgh since their last coming to this citie, but
never sawe them nor knewe them before, nor knoweth any of their
company, nor the arlate Daniel Straetman.

To the third hee saith hee hath bin since their said comming to towne
at the house of Mr Peter Vandeput merchant in towne where the said
Otto George and Christian Cloppenburgh were and soe hee hath
bin in their company, and hath seane them here all in other
places, and at the said Mr Vandeputs hee sawe a writing with
markes and numbers, which (as hee was there informed) was a
particular or catalogue of the goods aboard the said shipps the
Salvador and Sampson and of the moneys, but hee sawe them
not in the custodie of the said masters or either of them, nor
was told or acquainted by them that they had any bookes or writings
in theri custodie since they were seized or that they had delivered
any over to any one And otherwise hee cannot depose, [?saving]
hee sawe noe other writings, bills or documents touching the said
shipps, and saving that they told him they came from Spaine and were
bound for fflannders, and that they came into the downes for Pilotes
to carry them [?thither]. and that they knewe not but that the
said moneys and goods were for accompt of the king of Spaines subiects

To the fourth hee saith that noe Register, boatswaines booke, or
Pursers booke or Charter partie or [?XXXXXssements] or bills or other writings
touching the said shipps or lading have since
the said seizure come to this deponents hands, nor to the hands of any
other of the witnesses or other person that hee knoweth of saving
the said particular or note which was said to be a copie, which hee
beleeveth to be still in the said Mr vandeputs hands. And otherwise
heee cannot answer.
