The 9th day of November 1653. [CENTRE HEADING]
Examined upon the said Allegation.
3.
Antonio Coppens of dunquirke, Purser of the ship
Saint John Evangelist aged 24 yeares or thereabouts
sworne and examined deposeth.
To the first and second articles of the said Alleagtion hee saith and deposeth That
hee this deponent well knoweth the producent Edward Peters who was and is comonly
accompted and reputed a fflandrian by birth and a merchant of Antwerpe
And saith that in or about the moneth of Aprill last past there was at Cadiz laden and
put on bord the shippe the Saint John Evangelist whereof John de Vos was and is
Commannder by the Agents and factors of the said producent and for his
Adventure and accompt one bagg of peices of eight therein contayneing
fower hundred and nine markes and six ounces of silver No. 4 And two other
baggs each contayneing 600 peices of eight all marked with the marke in the mardgent
EP [MARKE, LH MARGIN]
to bee from thence transported in the said ship to Ostend or Dunquirke where
the same was and is consigned to bee delivered to the said Edward Peters
or to his Assignes for his use and accompt which hee knoweth, hee this
deponent when the said money and silver was soe laden on bord the said
ship being Purser thereof receaved the same and thereupon entred it and
every part thereof into his booke as laden for the account and under the markes predeposed
and after wards sawe the said John de Vos signe bills of ladeing for the same
accordingly. And further cannot depose.
