The Clayme of John Smesters of Antwerpe}
for his moneyes in the shipps the Sampson the}
Salvador and the Saint George. [Simon] Budd}

Examined upon an Allegation on the behalfe of the said [?]mesters:

John Vervoort of Antwerp in Brabant, Cashier and
Bookekeeper to the said John Smeesters, aged 25
yeares or thereabouts a wittnes sworne and examined
saith and deposeth as followeth videlicet.

To the first article of the said Allegation and the schedules therein mentioned
hee saith and deposeth, That in the moneths of June July August
September October, November December January ffebruary and March
in the yeare 1652 arlate all or some of them the producent John Smeesters arlate was and
as present is the Lawfull [?master] and Proprietor of all and singular the peeces
of eight mentioned in the said schedules respectively, and for such commonly
reputed and taken, videlicet of eight hundred pieces of eight in one bagg mentioned
in the first schedule and marked with the first marke in the margent, and

of eight hundred peeces of eight Peru Coyne mentioned in the 2nd schedule and contained in two baggs
arked with the second marke in the margent, and of eight hundred peeces

one bagg marked with the fourth marke in the margent, The premisses

hee knoweth for the reasons hereafter expressed. And further cannot depose.

To the second and third article of the said Allegation hee saith and deposeth, That
for seaven yeares last past or thereabouts of this deponents certaine knowledge, the
said John Smeesters hath bin and at present is a Merchant of Antwerp
who hath driven and doeth drive a trade to Cadiz in Spaine for moneyes
and other goods, and had and hath his factors and Correspondents residing [?in]
there to whom hee hath within the said time of seaven yeares sent severall goods
and Merchandizes from Ostend and Dunquirke in fflanders to be by then sould
bartered away or disposed of for silver moneyes and other goods, And saith
That in or about the moneths of July August September October in the
yeare 1652 last past, John La Motte and Gerard Ryper ffactors to the said
producent did lade or cause to be laden and putt on board the shipp the Sampson
whereof Otto George is Captaine, all and singular the peeces of eight mentioned
and expressed in the first of the schedules predeposed, and marked with the
first marke in the margent before expressed, And on board the said shipp the Salvadore all
and singular the peeces of eight mentioned and expressed in the second schedule
annexed to the said Allegation, and marked with the second marked in the margent
before expressed, And on board the shipp the Saint George all and singular the
peeces of eight mentioned and expressed in the third schedule to the said Allegation
annexed, and marked with the two last marks in the margent here to [fore]
expressed, all for the use and accompt of the said producent who transported
in the respective shipps as aforesaid to Ostend and shore to [?]
