Transcription

The twelfth day of September 1653.

The Clayme of Cesar da Haze merchant of}
Antwerp for his money or plate in the shipp}
the Saint George (whereof John Martins was}
and is master) taken by some of the shippes of}
the State and Commonwealth of England}
Bud ffrancklyn}

Examined upon an Allegation on the
behalfe of Cesar de Haze./

ffrancis du Bois of Cadiz in Spaine
merchant aged thirty yeares or thereabouts
a witnes sworne and examined deposeth
and saith as followeth. videlicet

...And further saith that the sayd Cesar
da Haze upon or about the second day of October 1652 did by him this
deponent as his factor and correspondent lade and putt on board the sayd
shipp Saint George, (whereof the arlate John Martins was and is master) then
lyeing before Cadiz aforesayd the two baggs of moneys arlate conteining
in each of them two hundred and fifty patacones or peices of 8/8 of Peru
for the Accompt of the sayd Cesar da Haze and marked with the marke in
the margent to be in the sayd shipp transported to Ostend in fflanders, and
there to be delivered to this deponent or his Assignes for the
Accompt of him the said Cesar da haze which this deponent knoweth to be true for that himselfe did sell
and bagg upp the sayd moneyes, and marked the sayd bagges and afterwards
did lade the same for the Accompt aforesayd. And saith that in the sayd
month of October and tyme of lading the sayd moneyes and ever [?sithence]
the said Cesar da Haze hath bene and att present is the true sole and lawfull
Owner of the sayd moneyes and so accounted, the sayd moneyes or patacones
being the proceed of a Case of fflanders lace which this deponent receyved
from the sayd Casar da Haze for his accompt from Antwerpe, and sold about the beginning
of September 1652 for the sole accompt of him the sayd Cesar da Haze
and further he cannot depose.
