and sold soe left the sayd Keene destitute of any men to man his sayd shipp for
and voyage and [?soe] destitute of helpe that hee was forced to procure mariners of other shipps at Saint Lucar to meete his the sayd
Keenes shipe shee having lost an Anchor and to [?XXX XXXX XX] her and doe other necessarie workes about her
And further to this article hee cannot depose

To the 7th 8th and 9th hee saith that
the Consull of the English at Saint Lucar
did in the behalfe of the sayd Keyne speake to one William Painter one
of the company of the shipp the Triall to serve in the shipp John and
Elizabeth and goe in her to Palma one of the Canary Oslands, but the sayd
Painter did in this deponents presence denye to goe to Palma, but sayd if
the sayd Keene would require his service to goe in her for England hee
would undertake to pilott and conduct her home thither but to Palma hee
would not goe upon any termes whatsoever and this deponent hath heard
some English mariners of a shippw hich was cast away neere Saint Lucar saye
that the sayd Keene did alsoe importune them to goe with him his sayd
voyage to Palma, and that they refused soe to doe but offered him their
service if hee would come for England and this deponent sawe them
afterwards on board the sayd shipp John and Elizabeth at Saint Lucar ready
to come therein from thence for London with a freight of goods and beleeveth they
and the sayd Painter did accordingly Come in her thence to London as her shipps company
the sayd Paynter as Masters Mate and Pylott and the rest as Mariners And
further hee cannot depose, saving hee saith hee verily beleeveth the sayd
Keene did doe his best endeavour to have procured Mariners to
have gone to Palma but could get none./

To the 10th hee saith hee well knoweth the arlate Mr Watts and knoweth
hee is reputed an English man and a merchant of good
Accompt in Saint Lucar, and hath heard that the arlate Mr Probe is alsoe an
English man and a merchant there of good esteeme And further to this article
hee cannot depose./

To the Interrogatories./ [CENTRE HEADING]

To the first hee saith hee cometh to testifie in this cause the truth of his
knowledge being soe required by the producent Mr Keene to whome
hee is noe way related and was none of the Company of the John and
Elizabeth Interrate the voyage in question./

To the second hee saith hee this rendent did (being a Carpenter)
helpe to repaire the shipp Interrogate at Saint Lucar and
make her fitt for a voyage to sea And further saving his foregoeing
deposition hee cannot depose saving hee saith the ayd ship could not
soe well goe to Palma as returne from Saint Lucar to London for
that mariners could not be gott at Saint Lucar to man her to goe to Palma
none being willing to goe thither./
