Transcription

To the second hee saith hee taketh himselfe concerned in this businesse with
the fishermen of Milton, Strowde and places adiacent, and in that consideration
endeavoureth to make good their right to fish in the grounds in question
but hath not contributed ought towards the
charge of this sute nor bin asked or required thereunto.

To the third and 4th hee saith that the ffishermen of ffeversham arlate have
from time to time during this deponents remembrance constantly fished
and dredged upon harty shore and other places interrogated, and have from time
to time challenged a right to dredge for oysters there exclusive to other
persons not being of the Mannor and hundred of ffaversham, but
not exclusive to the fishing of other persons for herrings spratts
flounders and other fish but meerely exclusive for oisters
And otherwise hee cannot answer.

To the fifth and 6th hee saith that in case the Inhabitants of
Milton, Strowde Gillingham or places adiacent not being
Inhabitants or tenants of the hunded of ffeversham, have
dredged for oisters in the said grounds, the fishermen of
ffeversham have frequently interrupted them and sometimes expelled
them but not for fishing for other fish. And otherwise hee cannot
answer.

To the 7th hee saith hee hath heard to the effect interrogated, but doth
not knowe nor hath seene ought thereof,

To the 8th hee saith that the ffishermen of ffeversham have in
oister season used to watch the fishing grounds in question to prevent
others from dredging there for oisters, and have somtimes seized
and staid the boates of others that have endeavoured to dredge there for
oisters. And otherwise hee cannot depose.

To the 9th negatively.

To the tenth hee saith the interrogated Rippinghall and [?Bartersells] are
Inhabitants of Strowde, and otherwise hee cannot depose.

To the eleaventh hee saith hee hath knowne that herrings and spratts
have in [?XXXbut] season for foure or five yeares together used to come upon
and to be fished and catched on the grounds in question, and this deponent
hath knowne them use to stay there two monethes together and somtimes
a lesse space. And otherwise hee cannot answer.
