Transcription

Ad 5um rendet That the said skipper sayd that hee had a Passe from the
Duke of York but this Examinate sawe not the same and saith that
hee knoweth not what papers were onboard the said ship the [?Piper]
not letting him see them and what is become of them hee knoweth not et alr nescit

Ad 6um rendet that the said ship made no resistance at her seizure nor Xfled
to save herselfe and saith that since hee hath belonged to the said ship shee
hath not carryed the Dutch Danish or ffrench colours but only the Lubeck
fflagg and colour and saith that the said shipp was taken off of [?Rye] about the
20th of Julie last newstile, but why shee was taken hee knoweth
not but supposeth that it was because the Captaine had a susuption that
shee was a Hollander and saith that the said shippp was first
brought to Hastings where shee lay about 20 howers and
thence was carryed to Rye, where the Master and this deponent and companie came
with a pilot up to London being then at liberty and saith that at
Rye shee was kept about a month and saith that wholst the said ship was
at Hastings some of the Captaines company forced this deponent and the rest in
the said ship into the Masters Cabbine and three severall tymes there kept them sometime and [?in ?the ?interim]
opened the bulke of the said ship (which was not made fast) but what was taken out
hee knoweth not. et alr nescit./

Ad 7um rendet that hee heard that whilst the said ship
was at Rye the Skipper and passengers gave bond to the Caper to
pay him 100 li but how it came to be done hee knoweth not. Et alr nescit/

Ad 8um nescit.

Ad 9um rendit That hee sayth that the said wine and brandy
leaked out at Rye to a great quantity
and some was drawne out by the [?Caper], but by what meanes the leakage
happened hee cannot say but saith that hee supposes that the
hott weather was part of the occassion. et alr nescit

Ad 10um rendet That if the said ship had bin not [?withby] a ffrench Dane or
Dutch man of war they intended to have declared that they were
bound to Ostend and if this deponent had bin brought upon oath
hee would have told
only how hee was hired and would not have declared that hee
was told that the said ship was to come to London, et alr salvis predepoita
nescit./

Mercator annos agens 42 aut circiter dicit et deponit
prout sequitur videlicet.

To the first Interrogatory hee answereth and deposes That hee knoweth not the
burthen of the interrate ship called the [?XXX] nor knoweth who are the Owners but saith that
as the skipper Paul Volkers saith shee belongeth to Lubeck and saith that this
deponent and his wife came onboard her at Ostend in the beginning
of May last, and hee had seene the ship before at Lubeck, and saith that from Ostend
shee went to Bourdeaux and in coming thence was taken et alr nescit/
