Abstract & context

Captain Richard Minors, commander of the Leopard, delivered a protest to Sir Abraham Shipman on December 24th, 1662. His protest was attested and approved by the seven officers of his ship. He sent a copy of the protest in a letter of the same date to Sir George Oxenden.

Sir Abraham Shipman answered the protest two days later, on December 26th, 1662, also sending a copy to Sir George Oxenden.[1] Henry Gary observed events from Goa with some bemusement if not contempt.
