Transcription To the second article of the said allegatiTo the second article of the said allegation hee saith and deposeth that in or<br /> about the moneth of July last and ere the building of the said vessell was<br /> finished shee was freighted or hired by the arlate Rocas P[XXXXX]<br /> a dutch merchant living in Rotterdam to put thence for Bourdeaux and<br /> there to take in his the said Par[XXX]s sonnr who was there and was thence<br /> to goe factor or supra Cargo in the said shipp which was to goe from Bourdeaux<br /> to Barbary and thence to Cadiz in Spaine on a trading voyage, And<br /> saith that the said Rocas P[XXXXX] after such his freighting of the said<br /> shipp did lade aboard her for his owne accompt the number and quantity<br /> of one hundred barrells of powder and one small pack of thread,<br /> and a small pack of stuffs or linnen cloth to be sold and disposed<br /> of in the said voyage by his factors in Barbary or Spaine to and for his<br /> best advantage, all which hee knoweth hee this<br /> deponent being master of the said vessell and in the name of himselfe<br /> and the rest of his owners, letting the said shipp to freight to the said P[XXXX]<br /> and seeing the said goods laden, and signing bills of lading for the same. And<br /> otherwise hee cannot depose. To the third article of the said allegation hee saith and deposeth that the said<br /> shipp sett saile with the said powder and other goods from Rotterdam on the<br /> said voyage on or about the 11th day of August last past (newe stile)<br /> and about tenn dayes after such her departure shee was in her course for<br /> Bourdeaux to the westward of Plimouth met with and taken by the arlate<br /> Captaine Ledg[?ent] in the shipp the [''XXXX]damms'' arlate, which hee knoweth<br /> because hee this deponent was then aboard his said shipp the ''Rat van [?Adventure''],<br /> and saith that hee this deponent presently without any resistance suffered<br /> his said shipp to be visited, and being demanded wherewith hee was laden<br /> hee gave the said Captaine and company a particular relation of his goods<br /> aboard and of his voyage whither hee was bound and upon what designe<br /> telling them withall that besides the fore said goods laden by his merchant<br /> hee had aboard two and twenty halfe barrells of small shott for the use and store<br /> of his said shipp, And further saith that the said 100 barrells of powder<br /> were stored in the hold of the said shipp with a few deales thereupon, and where merchants<br /> goods are to be stowed, and noe wayes obscured nor endeavoured by this<br /> deponent or any of his company to be concealed, howbeit the said Captaine<br /> Ledge[X]t carried the said shipp the ''Ratt van A[?venture]'' being of the<br /> burthen of 1[?8]0 tonnes or thereabouts together with her goods into Plimouth<br /> on or about the 22th of August last newe stile which hee knoweth<br /> being brought in thither in the said man of warr in her company, and<br /> saith shee is there still deteyned to the greate damage of her owners and<br /> freighter aforesaid, and otherwise hee cannot depose, saving the said<br /> shipp is mounted with tenn gunns and hath 15 men belonging unto her. To the last hee saith his foregoeing deposition was and is true. To the crosse Interrogatories [CENTRE HEADING] To the first hee saith hee is a part owner of the said shipp the ''Rat''<br /> ''van A[?v]enture'', and with the order and assistance of his said partners<br /> the rest of the owners caused the said shipp to be built at Rotterdam at<br /> the proper costs of the said owners and this deponent paid the moneys<br /> for the same, each of the other of the owners supplying his share to<br /> this examinate, And otherwise hee cannot answer saving his foregoeing deposition<br /> and saving that this is her first voyage.
