Transcription 25th of July 1651. ffor the widowe Page./25th of July 1651. ffor the widowe Page./ [?pauper ex ?notitia XXXX.] '''John Hutton''' of horsey downe in the parish of Saint Olaves in the borough<br /> of South Warke mariner aged 30 yeares or thereabouts, sworne before<br /> the right Worshipfull William Clarke doctor of lawes one of the Judges<br /> of the high Court of the Admiraltie saith and deposeth by vertue of<br /> his oath. That hee well kn[?e]we the shipp the ''Mary'' of London (whereof John Page<br /> late of the parish of Redriffe was master) and saith that hee the said<br /> Page in his life time was sole owner and proprietor of the said vessell, which<br /> hee knoweth because hee this deponent was his apprentice when hee bought her,<br /> and that hee the said Page bought her about tenn yeares since at dover of<br /> Mr Charles Br[aXnes] then of dover for the summe of two hundred and<br /> thirtie pounds sterling, which hee this deponent sawe him pay at dover<br /> to him the said Br[ames] for the said vessell, and for the raising of the money<br /> a part thereof hee the said Page was necessitated to p[XXXX] or [?ingage] a<br /> house which hee had in the said towne of dover; And for and as owner of<br /> her hee the said Page was commonly accompted at the time of his death<br /> which happened about tenn yeares since, And further hee saith that as hee<br /> hath bin credibly informed the said vessell bound hence for Ireland in the<br /> Parliaments service was taken by Jersey men about five yeares [?since] and afterwards by<br /> them sold to Saint Mallows in ffrance/ And hee hath bin lately informed that at the time of her setting out<br /> hense for Ireland as aforesaid shee was named the ''hopewell'' Repeated before doctor Exton. That the said<br /> shipp or vessell called the ''William'' of Leith was taken as a prize by<br /> the shipp the ''Henry'', about foure monthes since, and brought upp to the<br /> Port of London by the deponents husband, who shee saith was putt in her<br /> there of att Scarborough by Mr Southwood of London (or his order)<br /> Owner of the said shipp the ''Henry''; And she further saith That the said shipp<br /> the ''William'' was laden with herrings in Scotland and (when shee was taken as this<br /> deponent was informed) was bound for some Port in Norway; But being as aforesaid<br /> brought to London, shee saith and deposeth, That the said Southwood caused the said<br /> herrings to bee apprized after the rate of five shillings ten pence a barrell,<br /> and afterwards hee the said Southwood did (about two<br /> monthes since, sell the said Herrings (taken as prize) unto one Mr [BLANK IN MANUSCRIPT] Young livinge<br /> in Thamestreete att the rate fof ten shillings the barrell, giving in one barrell<br /> to the [XXX]. ffor which shee saith her said husband hath not had any allowance for his<br /> share and service in the premisses, Neither hath hee the said Southwood given any<br /> Accompte of the said shipp and Goods into this Court as shee hath heard and<br /> verely beleeveth.
