To the first Interrogatorie hee saith that … To the first Interrogatorie hee saith that hee well knoweth John de Widt and<br />
ffrederick da Beva (or some such name) of Cales who are accompted owners or<br />
part owners of the shipp the ''Sampson'' arlate, and saith they were and are accompted<br />
subiects of the kinge of Spaine, and natives of fflanders or thereabouts in his<br />
dominions, and this deponent hath knowne them there dwelling about seaven yeares<br />
last, And otherwise hee cannot depose.
To the second hee saith that hee cannot depose, for hee came first into the said shipp<br />
in August last shee then lying at Calas.
To the third hee saith that Otto George nowe master of the said vessell hath<br />
commannded her ever since hee knewe and first came aboard her as aforesaid.
To the fourth hee saith that the said shipp came last from Cales before her<br />
seizure, bound for Ostend or dunquirke.
To the fifthhee saith that the said shipps lading at the time of her seizure<br />
consisted of silver, tobaccoes, wools , and some other goods, all taken at<br />
Cales, and otherwise hee cannot depose, hee being Cooke of the vessell and<br />
soe not well acquainted with the names of the laders, or of those to whom the goods<br />
are consigned or for whose accompt they were.
To the sixth hee cannot depose.
To the seaventh hee saith that the shipps company consisted of about 44<br />
persons, foure or five whereof were accompted hollanders, and the rest hamburgers<br />
Lubeckers, Swedes, English, Scots and of other places, and this deponent of<br />
Lunnenburgh in the dominion of the duke of Brunswicke, and the Skipper of<br />
Lubeck. And otherwise hee cannot depose.
To the eighth hee saith that the said master is a maried man, and hath his<br />
wife and familie at Lubeck, and there this deponent hath knowne him<br />
theise seaven yeares last or thereabouts, And otherwise hee cannot depose<br />
saving as aforesaid.
To the 9th negatively.
To the 10. 11. 12. 13. and 14th hee cannot depose, saving the said shipp hath not<br />
since her coming from Cadiz met with any shipp of warr of the dutch<br />
fleete.
To the 15 hee cannot depose.
To the 16. 17 and 18 hee cannot depose.
To the 19th hee saith that the silver on board was some in barrs and<br />
some coyned, some in baggs, and the rest, namely the [?non] coyned silver<br />
as hee taketh is in barrs, And otherwise hee cannot depose.
To the 20th and last hee cannot depose.
To the Interrogatories in the second place.
To the 1. 2. 3. 4. 5 and 6 hee cannot depose saving his foregoing deposition<br />
whereunto hee referreth himselfe, and saving the said shipp was at noe other<br />
port since her comming from Cales before her seizure, and saving that this deponent<br />
was not in her in the Streights or elsewhere till hee came into her at Cales<br />
which was about two monethes before her comming thence.
To the 7th hee saith that the ''George'' (John Martens master) and the ''Salvador''<br />
Christian Cloppemnburgh master were alsoe at Cales when this deponent<br />
was there as aforesaid in the ''Sampson'', and they alsoe received silver aboard<br />
and that the said shipps are commonly accompted to belonge to hamborough<br />
where they were built, and there this deponents sawe the ''Salvador'' there in building
