Transcription there till the seaventh day of the said mothere till the seaventh day of the said moneth, and then and there the Master<br /> and Companie of the said ship or Vessell the ''William and James''<br /> did unrig the fore-topman of their said ship, and putt on a new capp<br /> upon it, and in the afternoon of the same day, the said ship ''William''<br /> ''and James'', and the ''Dove'' as aforesaid with some other English Vessells<br /> sett saile from Winterton roade aforesaid, and that night passed the<br /> place called the Well, but this deponent saith, That in such their passage he did not [?there] see nor heare of any damage done by the sayd Vessell<br /> the ''dove'' to the ship ''Successe'' arlate, neither indeed did hee this deponent<br /> then see the said ship ''Successe'', nor hath hee ever knowne her<br /> And further cannot depose./ To the 10th hee saith, hee never heard any words proceed from the<br /> arlate Cable or Companie to the effect arlate. And further cannot<br /> depose./ To the rest of the articles hee deposeth not by the producents direction./ To the Interrogatories./ [CENTRE HEADING] To the first hee saith, hee cometh to be a Wittnesse of what he knoweth<br /> in this Cause by the procurement and at the request of the late Master of<br /> the said Vessell ''Successe'', who hath given him twelve pence for his<br /> paines, and that hee is not promised, nor expecteth any more. And<br /> otherwise then negatively hee cannot further depose./ To the second hee saith, hee referreth himself to his foregoeing deposition, And<br /> otherwise cannot depose./ To the third hee saith, hee knoweth not how farr over the place the<br /> Well interrate is, but saith the night in question when they passed the<br /> same was neither very darke nor very light, as hee remembreth To the 4th hee saith hee hath not so deposed./ To the 5th hee referreth himselfe to his foregoeing deposition, And further<br /> cannot depose saving that this deponent observed that the said Vessell the<br /> ''dove'' had the picture or resemblance of an Angell in her head and<br /> of a dove in her sterne/:- To the 6th hee saith hee hath not so deposed./ To the 7th hee answereth, That hee never heard of any other shipp or<br /> Vessell taxed or accused for the dammage in Controversie, save the<br /> said Vessell the ''dove''./ To the 8th hee saith hee cannot write nor reade but toke notice of<br /> the time interrate by hearing the Master and Companie of the said<br /> ship ''William and James'' wherein hee then served take notice<br /> and speake thereof.
