[CENTRE HEADING] The claime of the said Balthazar and John}<br /> Coymans for the ''Saint Mary'' aforesaid and goods} Examined upon the foresaid allegation. '''dt. 2.''' '''Peter Gurlero''' of Genoa Mariner, late Gunner<br /> of the said shipp the ''Saint Mary'', aged 32 yeares<br /> or thereabouts sworne and examined. To the first and second articles hee saith and deposeth that hee well knoweth the<br /> producents Balthazar and John Coymans and hath soe donne for theise<br /> thirteene monethes last or thereabouts, during all which space hee saith they<br /> have bin and are as hee beleeveth the true and lawfull owners and proprietors of the said shipp<br /> and of her tackle and furniture, and for such commonly accompted, for hee<br /> saith they sett her out from Amsterdam to goe to the Canarie Ilands, and<br /> fitted and furnished her for that voyage; of his sight and knowledge, hee<br /> going out Gunner of her, on which voyage shee proceeded from Amsterdam<br /> in our about the middle of March 1653, namely somewhat above a yeere<br /> since. And further that they laded severall packs of goods in her for the<br /> Canaries to be there delivered to their factor, but the number of the packs<br /> hee remembreth not, And saith the said shipp and goods safely arived at<br /> the Canaries, and there the said packs were delivered ashore.<br /> And otherwise hee cannot depose. To the third article and the schedule annexed hee saith and deposeth that after<br /> the said shipps arivall at the Canaries, the factors or agents of<br /> the said Coymans did there lade and put aboard her for their the<br /> said producents accompts severall quantities and parcells of Logwood<br /> Brasill, Campechiana and hides, but the iust quantitie or number of<br /> each hee knoweth not, to be thence carried and transported in her to Amsterdam<br /> and there to be delivered for their accompts, which hee knoweth being present<br /> and helping to stowe the said goods. And otherwise hee cannot depose. To the fourth hee saith that the said shipp having received the said goods aboard<br /> departed from the Iland of [?Gourero] one of the Canarie Ilands in or about<br /> the moneth of July last to goe for Amsterdam, and after two or three dayes<br /> that shee was soe departed, comming neere the Iland of Palma, shee was<br /> met with and taken by one Captaine Collart, pretending a Commission<br /> from the ffrench kinge, and that afterwards shee was retaken by the<br /> shipps of this Commonwealth and brought into Plimouth, which hee<br /> knoweth being in her and brought up to Plimouth in her company. And<br /> otherwise hee cannot depose. To the fifth and 6 hee saith that after the said seizure and that the said Collart<br /> was carrying the said shipp and lading towards ffrance, they were parted by<br /> storme and that afterwards hee met with her againe and carried her to Saint Michaels in<br /> the Terrera's to get victualls and to accomodate her and<br /> his owne frigat to goe to Rochell, whither (parting from the Terrera's)<br /> hee as carrying her, but in their course, they were met with<br /> by an English shipp which chased them, and thereupon the said Collart<br /> quitted the said shipp the ''Saint Mary de Guardelupa'' and fledd<br /> and escaped with his frigot, and therreupon the said English shipp seized<br /> her and afterwards brought her into Plimouth, But saith that when<br /> the said English shipp seized her there were seaven of the company of the said shipp the<br /> ''Saint Mary'' her company aboard her, whereof this deponent was one<br /> Andreof this deponent was one<br /> And  +
