Transcription olde trunnell hole which was rottem and haolde trunnell hole which was rottem and had sucked in grasse<br /> and dirt which stopped it for a while in some measure, And<br /> the same being soe found out and cleered of the dirt<br /> and grasse which was in it, this deponent and the Carpenter of the<br /> ''hopefull Adventure'' and his mate aforesayd did well and sufficiently<br /> stopp and amend the sayd leak, soe that the same<br /> was made tight and stanch, and the saud shipp by that meanes<br /> performed her voyage for England where this deponent hath<br /> since seene her and bin on board her on the River of Thames neere<br /> dicks shoare there; the premisses hee deposeth being Carpenter<br /> of the shipp the ''Charles'' of London then lyeing neere the<br /> ''hopefull Adventure'' in Virginia when the premisses happenedm and<br /> togeather with others of the ''Charles'' her company helpeing to pumpe<br /> the ''hopefull Adventure'' and to cleere her hold of water, and seeing divers<br /> planters of Virginia on board and assisting about the same, and<br /> procuring of the Captaine of the ''Charles'', lead and nayles to use<br /> about stopping the sayd leake, when found, and helpeing to stopp<br /> and amend the same And further to these articles hee cannot<br /> depose saving hee beleeveth the goods on board the ''hopefull Adventure''<br /> could not chuse but receive much damage by reason of the sayd<br /> leake, there being as aforesayd soe much water in her hold<br /> before the same was espied and amended as aforesayd./ To the 5th article hee saith hee well remembreth that the Captaine<br /> of the ''Charles'' aforesayd askeing this deponent in presence of the<br /> arlate husbands whether they had found the leake or not, and<br /> this deponent answering and saying noe not yet, but wee hope wee shall<br /> the arlate husbands sayd that hee knew well enough that there<br /> was an old leake in some part of her (meaning the ''hopefull Adventure'')<br /> and that hee knew it before,<br /> or words to that effect, and saith that afterwards<br /> the Captaine of the ''Charles'' speakeing of the sayd Leake before<br /> the sayd husbands and this deponent and the foresayd davies the<br /> Caarpenter, and alsoe before the Gunner of the ''hopefull Adventure'', on board the<br /> sayd ''hopefull Adventure'', and saying that the sayd husbands did<br /> saye that hee knew the sayd shipp ''Adventure'' had an old leake longe<br /> before then, that the same was soe found, the sayd husbands then denyed<br /> the same and sayd if hee sayd soe, hee sayd hee did not know what, oryd soe, hee sayd hee did not know what, or  +
