Transcription The same day. [CENTRE HEADING] Examined uThe same day. [CENTRE HEADING] Examined upon the foresaid allegation. '''Rp. 3.''' '''Thomas Bee''' of Salcombe in the County of devon mariner<br /> one of the Quarter masters of the said ship the ''Chase'',<br /> aged 34 yeares or thereabouts sworne and examined. To the first article of the said allegation hee saith and deposeth that in<br /> the homewards course of the said ship the ''Chase'' from Scanderon<br /> and Cyprus, coming off Cape ffinis-terre shee met with very<br /> furious and stormie weather in or about November last, which lasted<br /> about 28 dayes together, saving that for some part of that space<br /> the weather was nowe and then lesse violent, and<br /> yet stressie; and saith that in and by occasion of the said stormes and<br /> tempestuous weather the vessel unavoidably tooke in much water<br /> by shipping of seas and otherwise; and further that whatsoever<br /> damage is befallen the merchandize aboard her, the same came<br /> and happened mearly by meanes of the said fowle weather and not by<br /> any insufficiencie of or in the said vessel or by any neglect of the<br /> master and companie or of any of them, for the said ship was (as<br /> hee saith) staunch and sufficient till shee met with the said stormes<br /> and for the master and companie, hee saith that they in all the<br /> terme of the voyage used all care and diligence like faithfull<br /> mariners to preserve the said lading from hurt or damage,<br /> which hee knoweth being one of the Quarter masters and all the<br /> said voyage in her.
