Transcription The 27th of March 1655. [CENTRE HEADING] The 27th of March 1655. [CENTRE HEADING] Affidavit touching the}<br /> ''fflower pot''} '''Rp.''' '''Richard Jacob''' of dover in the County of kent<br /> Mariner, aged 52 yeares or thereabouts sworne<br /> before the right worshipfull William Clarke doctor<br /> of lawes one of the Judges of the high Court<br /> of the Admiraltie saith and deposeth<br /> by vertue of his oath That about five weekes since there issued out of<br /> this Court a Commission for the inspecting the goods in the shipp the<br /> ''fflower pot'', taken by vertue of a Commission grannted to Edward<br /> Goodwin and brought into dover, directed to Michael de haze<br /> John L[?amm], humphrey Mantle, Beniamin dela{?XXX] and Thomas<br /> [?ffanchee]; and that the said Commission was about a<br /> moneth since presented to the said Michaell dehaze and Beniamin<br /> da[?lXXX] and others of the said Commissioners at dover by the said mr<br /> Goodwin in the presence of this deponent, and they were by him<br /> desired to put the said Commission in execution, and inspect<br /> the said goods according to the [?tenour] thereof, and make certificate<br /> thereupon to this Court. And that diverse of the company of<br /> the said shipp and alsoe severall waiters that were onboard<br /> her, were brought before them of this deponents sight and<br /> knowledgem, and did certifie the said de haze, de [?XXXX] and<br /> other the said Commissioners in this deponents presence and<br /> hearing that the said shipp was very leakie, and had but<br /> one pumpe, which as they said they were constrained to use<br /> very much every tide, and they were further told by the<br /> said company that in case the said pump should breake<br /> the said shipp woud by reason of her leakinesse be<br /> sunck in the space of one tide, and the goods aboard her<br /> would utterly perish thereby. And that the said de haze<br /> de [?XXX] and the other Commissioners present were desired<br /> by the said mr Goodwin to make certificate of the premisses<br /> which they the saud de haze and de [?laXXXX] refused and<br /> denied to doe, albeit the other Commissioners were willing and offered<br /> to [?oine] with them in the said certificate.[?XXXX] which this<br /> deponent was present and heard the same.
