Transcription they were met with by two holland men of wthey were met with by two holland men of warr, one of which haled<br /> them and bad them come aboard, but this deponent in dutch answered<br /> that the shipp was from Venice and bound for Ostend, and for coming aboard<br /> they could not doe it in regard their boate was stowed betwixt decks<br /> soe as they could not come at it, whereupon they commannding<br /> them to lie by them till morning (for in was evening when they soe<br /> came up with them) this deponent suspecting that the man of warr might<br /> set out his boate and came aboard and finde their English documents<br /> made them all fast up with five or six great shott in the said English<br /> Ensign, and soe heaved them out at the gun roome port into<br /> the sea and sunck them, namely the said passe, certificate and colourable<br /> bills of lading, and noe other papers or writings whatsoever were<br /> as hee saith made away or concealed, And about the middle of the<br /> first watch in the night, and Ostender (that with other Ostenders and<br /> an English shipp were in their company) carrying the [?light] made saile<br /> and this deponent after him with his said shipp, and soe escaped the<br /> said two men of warr, who as this deponent perceived in the<br /> morning when hee was almost out of sight of them had seized the<br /> said English man who came from Cadize in company of the<br /> ''Nostra Signora'', Luke [?Roche] master of the said English shipp. Et alr<br /> nescit, saving that the said Alderman ffoote Mr Pourteen and<br /> Mr Watts and partners were and are the true proprietors of the<br /> said goods saving the kidd skinns which belong as aforesaid. Ad 8um arlum deponit that about three or foure leagues to the<br /> westward of Plimouth the arlate Captaine Lucy in the shipp ''Victoria''<br /> a privateer comming up with the ''Nostra Signora del gratia'' and<br /> two Ostenders that were in her company (the other Ostender being<br /> gon off) and firing a gun, the ''Nostra Signora'' presently lowered<br /> her sailes, which the Ostenders not doing, the said Captaine Lucy<br /> made severall shotts at them before they would stricke namely six or<br /> seaven, and constrained them to strike saile, and then made them<br /> pay a noble for each shott for their refusall to strike in time, this<br /> deponent being present and seeing the money paid, and saith<br /> that when the said Captaine Lucy upon examination and discourse<br /> with this deponent aboard the said Captaines frigot, understanding the<br /> truth of the designed for London, and being fully satisfied by him<br /> and his company, hee dismissed them, and for a salute gave them<br /> five guns at parting to goe aboard, and when this deponent<br /> and such as had bin with him aboard Captaine Lucy were come<br /> into their owne shipp, one Mr ffelton a passenger tellin the<br /> Italians that were of the Company, that they could not doe lesse<br /> than retourne the Captaines thankes by shooting some gunds, the<br /> said Italians the Captaine and such of his company as were Italians<br /> out of what apprehension hee knowes not, without more a doe<br /> fell to knocking downe, and did knowck downe the said Mr ffelton<br /> and brake this deponents head bery sorely, whereof this deponent<br /> not understanding the meaning, and fearing the [?XXXX]<br /> calledand fearing the [?XXXX]<br /> called  +
